For those able to invest a lot into a junior ISA this will be much more beneficial than the child trust fund. There may not be the initial payment as there was with the CTF, but the yearly investment limit is 3 times as much, with it set to increase with inflation.

The auto enrollment is going to mean a lot of different things for a lot of different businesses, but at it's heart, it's a problem with cost. It will be interesting to see who gets hurt and who gets helped with auto enrollment.

Hi There. The government has recently announced that they will review the Junior ISA in the summer of 2012 and are expecting to make an announcement with regards to the possibility of either being able to transfer a CTF to a Junior ISA or to merge the two products together.

Thanks for your comment.

Agreed. It would certainly seem to make sense to allow a switch from one to the other as it would make the whole thing simpler. As you rightly point out the children are the ones who lose out. However we often find that when these type of regulations are proposed (and then put in place) some of rules aren't as logical as we would hope.

Interesting that those with a child trust fund aren't allowed to switch to a junior ISA. In a way they are punishing children who were born before the child trust fund was discontinued. They (or their parents on their behalf) do not have the same opportunities for tax free savings as newly born children.
